If you've found the perfect vanity for your bathroom at your bathroom supplies save some money and complete the installation yourself. If you follow these simple instructions, you can make installing bathroom vanity fast and simple.
When you go to purchase your bathroom vanity, make sure that you have measured up the space correctly. There are small bathroom vanities available which are specially designed to fit into a reduced space. Make sure that you have enough room in your bathroom for the doors and drawers to open correctly. Think about what you need to store in your toilet vanity and purchase one that meets your needs and budget and that fits in with the style of your bathroom.
Before getting started, gather together the tools needed to install wooden bathroom vanities. Make sure you have to hand a measuring tape, a pencil, a knife, wall plugs, screws, a screwdriver, a hammer drill, a hole saw and a level.
Measure the space where the vanity will be go and mark the centre point on the floor using the pencil. From this mark measure half of the length of the vanity in either direction and make a mark on each side. Now you know where the vanity will be centrally positioned in the space.
Next, you need to work out where you have to make the holes in your for the water and waste pipes. Measure the distance from the mark where the edge of the vanity will go to the centre of the nearest pipe and note down the distance. Repeat this procedure from the mark of the other edge to the centre of the other pipe. If there are two pipes on this side, one for hot and one for cold water, measure the distance to the middle between them.
Now, measure the distance from the wall to the centre of each pipe. Make sure to jot down the measurements clearly and correctly or draw yourself a sketch. It is easy to make an error and making a cut in the wrong place could ruin your new drawer vanity.
Some toilet vanities have back boards which can be removed to make working easier. Check to see if your vanity has this option to give yourself more room. Mark your measurements onto the base panel from either side. Where the two measurements coincide, mark a large clear cross. Insert your hole saw into the drill, making sure that it is a little larger in diameter than the pipes themselves, to make installation easier. Always remember to use ear and eye protection when using any type of power tool. Place the drill point exactly in the centre of the cross and hold the drill straight to make a perfectly positioned, clean cut. Replace the back panels and move the bathroom vanity into place over the pipes.
Use the spirit level to make sure that the vanity is completely level in all directions. Use the hammer drill to make two appropriately sized holes through the top rail at the back of the wall hung vanity, and into the bathroom wall. Insert the wall plugs into the holes as far as they will go. Use your knife to trim off the ends if they stick out a bit. Now, insert the screws into the wall plugs and tighten them down firmly into the wall.
Make one last check that your wall vanity is still absolutely level. Then attach the doors and the benchtop, insert the drawers and position the sink. The only thing left to do now is to call the plumber to get the water, and the drainpipe hooked up correctly.
