How to Make Your Small Bedroom Look Bigger

If you've been dealt the short stick in your family home and are left with the smallest bedroom, your bad luck may just be about to change. Although we can not alter the dimensions of your bedroom, we know some handy tips on how to make your small bedroom look bigger, some of them you definitely won't have heard before. So, let's find out how you can trick your eye into thinking your room is bigger than it actually is...

Wardrobe
One of the biggest items in your bedroom will undoubtably be the wardrobe. This is where you withhold most of your possessions, from shoes to clothing your wardrobe is your life. So, why not make the most of it? Invest in a sliding wardrobe and get floor to ceiling space to store your clothing and other items. Not only will it be a great way to hang and place things, but due to the extra space your room will be much tidier too. Better still, with sliding wardrobe doors you will be able to 'hide" all of your clothing behind closed doors, so they'll be nothing to ruin your immaculate bedroom.

Hanging Mirrors
It goes without saying that a handing mirror is far better than a free standing one. No matter if you opt for a full length mirror or something smaller, your bedroom will appear far bigger with a hanging mirror. This is because you will save space on your floor and the room itself. Plus, wall mirrors actually make your room look bigger as they reflect the opposite wall, making it appear further away and increasing the wall size.

Have a Clear Out!
One of the best ways to increase the space within your bedroom or room is to takeaway things. So, if you don't wear it or no longer use it, loose it! Cut out any clutter in your room and you will find that your dressing table, drawers, or shelves will appear to be much bigger. It is a trick your mind plays on you but having less things on display or saved will make your room look bigger. This is because your room is no longer 'hoarded" with things you no longer need. Everything will be clean and tidy, meaning everything on display will look much more presentable and organised.

Choose for Furniture with Legs
Go for furniture that has legs to create an airy, open feel in your bedroom. You don't have to choose every piece of furniture with legs, but by doing so it will mean that your bedroom has more flooring space rather than being boxed down with large objects. The more floor and wall that is shown in your bedroom the larger it will appear.

Be Careful with Colours
Choosing the right colours and design in your bedroom can be difficult. With various styles and options to choose from, it can be challenging to find the right colour to suit your bedroom as well as your taste. But to help save you time, some of the colours that we believe would work well are:
  • Purple
  • Pearl grey
  • Super white - everywhere
  • Straw yellow
  • Blush pink
  • Sky blue
  • Eggshell
These colours can then be interpreted in your own individual way, allowing you to make your bedroom something that is special for you. Regardless of the size of your bedroom, we're confident in saying that by choosing any of these colours within your design, you will see some improvements with the size in which it appears to be.

Less is More
Along with your clear out, try to reinforce the 'less is more" rule. Applying this will allow you to focus on only displaying the most necessary items in your room, which in tern will make your bedroom appear bigger because there are less things in it to clutter it up. That said, try and only have one or two items out on display and focus on the most important things.

Scale Your Furniture
Having a small room doesn't mean that you have to downsize your furniture. It does mean that you will have to find suitable items that match the scale and size of your room though. For example, don't cram in a bed that doesn't fit right or looks silly, as your room will instantly look smaller than it already is. Going for a smaller bed with bedside tables will make your much far more spacious, giving the illusion that the entire room is bigger too.
